In accordance with Indian Income Tax regulations, each person is given a unique PAN card or PAN number that they must use to pay taxes to the government. When conducting any type of financial transaction, each person must provide this 10-digit number. The PAN card is a great tool for the government to monitor every financial transaction an individual makes.

How to cancel your PAN Card ?

Online Mode: The assessee can use the procedures listed below to apply for the PAN Card to be canceled online:
Method 1:

  • Step 1: He must log in to the Indian IT Department’s registered website, which is accessible at http://incometax.sparshindia.com/pan/newPAN.asp.
  • Step 2: In order to complete the form, he must next read the instructions that are displayed on the screen. After completing that, he needs to input the necessary details. The information provided must be accurate and correct.

Method 2:

By completing the “PAN Change Request” Application form, the assessee may also submit an application for the same. He can accomplish this by taking the actions listed below:

  • Step 1: He needs to sign in to the IT Department’s registered website and select the “PAN Change Request” application form.
  • Step 2: He must carefully and accurately complete the form. The assessee is required to complete the application form’s top section with the PAN details that are currently in use.
  • Step 3: Carefully enter the information about the additional PANs that the assessee was given in item number 11.
  • Step 4: The assessee must ensure that he submits the application for a PAN Change Request along with the PAN Card that is to be cancelled.

Offline Mode: The assessee may also visit one of the approved PAN Centers and apply for the cancellation of their PAN Card by following the instructions listed below:
Method 1:

The assessee must first complete form 49A, which can be found at any NSDL TIN facilitation center. Filling out the form allows one to make changes to their PAN Card. The assessee must properly complete the form, turn it in at any NSDL Tin facilitation center, and ask that his PAN card details be corrected.

Method 2:

The assessee may also apply for corrections or any alterations to his PAN card by addressing an application in the form of a letter to the immediate assessing officer in charge of the area. The letter should contain valid details of the assessee. The details so provided must be true to its nature. The various details that have to be provided by the applicant are:

Information about the PAN card that has to be retained: The applicant also has to mention clear details of the PAN card which he/she wishes to hold with him/her.

Name of the assessee: The applicant has to provide his correct name in the letter. The name so provided should be the same as it appears on other legal documents of the applicant.

Address of the assessee: The applicant should mention his correct address in the letter. The address provided should be the applicant’s valid residential address.

Information about the Pan card that has to be cancelled or surrendered: The applicant has to mention clear details of the extra PAN cards possessed by him/her and the ones which he/she wishes to surrender.
